Educational Advisory

The U.S. Embassy in Bangkok does not provide individual student advising; however, we do arrange annual group orientations for students interested in studying in the U.S., workshops for student advisors and provide support for institutions that provide advising services.  We support the collection of educational advising resources accessible to the general public, including U.S. university catalogs, guides and reference materials in Thailand at the American University Alumni (AUA)'s library, Office of the Civil Service Commission, Bangkok Bank Ltd. and the Institute of International Education (IIE). 

The Media and Cultural Section of the Embassy continues to be an active member of the Coalition of Non-Profit Educational Advisory Services which was established in 1984.  The other members of the Coalition are Bangkok Bank, the Office of the Civil Service Commission (OCSC), and the Institute of International Education (IIE).  The Bangkok Bank and OCSC advise students going to all countries while IIE and the Public Affairs Section only deal with students going to the US.  The Coalition's activities include an annual general orientation in Bangkok, Chiang Mai and Khon Kaen, developing materials in Thai language, and workshops to enhance the professional development of student advisers.
