Non-Immigrant Visas
Fees
Most non-immigrant visa applicants must pay a non-refundable Machine Readable Visa (MRV) application fee. Effective January 1, 2008, the MRV fee is US$131 or THB 4454. Only those individuals instructed by a consular officer not to pay are exempt from paying the non-refundable MRV fee.
The fee can be paid at one of 248 designated post offices nationwide. You cannot pay the visa application fee at the Consular Section. Save your fee receipt and bring it with you on the day of your interview. For general information about non-immigrant visa fees, please click here.
For some types of visas, an extra issuance fee will need to be paid at the consular section. For more information about the types of visas that require an extra fee, please consult the U.S. Department of State Bureau of Consular Affairs’ Visa Reciprocity Table for Thailand.
SPECIAL INFORMATION ON FEES FOR STUDENT AND EXCHANGE VISITORS
On September 1, 2004, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security began collecting a fee to cover the costs for the continued operation of the Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP), including administration and maintenance of the Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVIS). SEVIS is a web-based system for maintaining information on international students and exchange visitors during their time in the United States.
Who pays the SEVIS fee?
Those who wish to enter the United States as international students, exchange visitors and scholars with Forms I-20/DS-2019 issued on or after September 1, 2004 must pay the SEVIS fee in addition to the regular application fee. The SEVIS fee is non-refundable, regardless of whether the visa is issued.
Individuals participating in a federally sponsored program whose program number prefix begins with “G-1,” “G-2” or “G-3” are exempt from this fee. Spouses and dependent children of students (F-2 and M-2) or exchange visitors (J-2) also do not pay this fee.
Note: Effective October 27, 2008, SEVIS fees will increase and affect foreign students, exchange visitors and the schools that host them. Students who have paid their SEVIS fee before October 27 do not need to pay the higher amount, even if they have not yet traveled or applied for a visa.
When do prospective students or exchange visitors pay the SEVIS fee?
• They must pay the fee prior to the visa interview.
• Non-immigrants currently in the United States who apply for student or exchange visitor status must pay the fee prior to filing their change of status application.
How is the fee paid?
The fee can be paid visa SEVIS online at https://www.fmjfee.com/i901fee/ using a credit card, debit card, check or money order and then electronically submitting the fee payment Form I-901 (Fee for Remittance for Certain F, M, and J Non-immigrants).
Note: The fee cannot be paid at a U.S. Embassy or Consulate.
