Non-Immigrant Visa Fees

In order to comply with worldwide U.S. Department of State guidelines related to the implementation of new Machine Readable Visa (MRV) application fees, effective June 4, 2010, all applicants appearing for visa interviews must present a receipt in the amount of the MRV application fee, as listed below.

There is no longer one single visa application fee for all non-immigrant categories. If you are not sure which of the MRV application fees applies to you, please pay the Thai baht equivalent of U.S. $140. We will determine the correct fee at your visa appointment and advise you how to pay the difference. Only those individuals instructed by a consular officer not to pay are exempt from paying the non-refundable MRV application fee.

Special information on fees for student and exchange visitors

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security collects a fee to cover the costs for the continued operation of the Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP), including administration and maintenance of the Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVIS). SEVIS is a web-based system for maintaining information on international students and exchange visitors during their time in the United States.

Who pays the SEVIS fee?

Those who wish to enter the United States as international students, exchange visitors and scholars with Forms I-20/DS-2019 issued on or after September 1, 2004 must pay the SEVIS fee in addition to the regular application fee. The SEVIS fee is non-refundable, regardless of whether the visa is issued.

Individuals participating in a federally sponsored program whose program number prefix begins with “G-1,” “G-2” or “G-3” are exempt from this fee. Spouses and dependent children of students (F-2 and M-2) or exchange visitors (J-2) also do not pay this fee.

When do prospective students or exchange visitors pay the SEVIS fee?

  • They must pay the fee prior to the visa interview.
  • Non-immigrants currently in the United States who apply for student or exchange visitor status must pay the fee prior to filing their change of status application.

How is the fee paid?

The fee can be paid visa SEVIS online at the Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP) SEVIS I-901 fee processing website using a credit card, debit card, check or money order and then electronically submitting the fee payment Form I-901 (Fee for Remittance for Certain F, M, and J Non-immigrants).

Note: The fee cannot be paid at a U.S. Embassy or Consulate.
