U.S. Embassy Presents “Doreen Ketchens’ Jazz New Orleans”

The Embassy of the United States of America, in partnership with Jazz at Lincoln Center, will present Doreen Ketchens’ Jazz New Orleans, “The Show Stealers,” at the AUA Auditorium on Thursday, December 8, 2005 at 7:00 p.m. Admission is free.
This concert is part of a tour to thank Thailand and other nations for their offers of humanitarian assistance to the people of New Orleans after the city was destroyed by hurricane Katrina last August.
Doreen’s Jazz New Orleans is renowned for spreading the culture and traditional music of New Orleans all over the world. The group has made many appearances in radio and television such as VH1, MTV, NBC, ABC, PBS, and CNN, as well as appearances on English, French, German, Danish, Swiss, Taiwanese, Korean, and Japanese radio and television.
The group leader Doreen Ketchens has been called by American media “The Queen of Jazz”, “The Female Louis Armstrong”, “Queen Clarinet”, and “Miss Satchmo”. They have performed for four former U.S. presidents: Jimmy Carter, Ronald Reagan, George H. W. Bush, and Bill Clinton.
Besides vocalist Ketchens, who also plays clarinet, the group consists of Lawrence Henry Ketchens II on tuba and sousaphone, vocalist Jack Fine on cornet, Orville Lee Floyd III on banjo, Ronell Johnson on trombone and Dwayne Nelson on drums.
Music planned for the audience at AUA includes When the Saints Go Marching in, Just a Closer Walk with Thee, Down by the Riverside, Bill Bailey, Saint Louis Blues, and Bourbon St. Parade.
