Fraudulent Offer of Visas to the United States

Some members of the public have reported receiving e-mails and letters claiming to be from the U.S. Consulate in Thailand and informing recipients that they have won U.S. visas through a special visa program. The e-mails request personal information and a sum of money.

This communication is fraudulent; it does not come from any Embassy or Consulate office. The U.S. Embassy does not request personal information or money by email or letter. We urge members of the public not to respond to this correspondence.

For information on how to apply for and obtain a visa for travel to the U.S., please see the Embassy website at http://bangkok.usembassy.gov/ or the Department of State website at http://www.state.gov/.

This scam is being investigated by the Department of State's Cyber Crimes Unit. Anyone involved in soliciting money for visas will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.
