Media and Cultural Section
The Media and Cultural Section of the U.S. Embassy in Bangkok advises the U.S. Ambassador on issues of public diplomacy, including media relations, and is headed by the Counselor for Public Affairs. The Media and Cultural Section fconducts information and cultural programs on behalf of the U.S. Government in Thailand and is undertaken in cooperation with the bureaus supervised by the Under Secretary of State for Public Diplomacy and Public Affairs.
The Media and Cultural Section maintains an Information Resource Center to support information requests on U.S. policy, people and culture. Using CD-ROMs, online databases i.e. Lexis/Nexis as well as Internet resources of U.S. Government agencies, we provide continually updated information to the public, including Thai government officials, academics and journalists. A current file of official statements and texts by U.S. Government Departments is also transmitted from Washington five days per week. For more information, please visit the Information Resource Center section of our home page.
The Media and Cultural Section also provides educational and cultural services listed separately on this home page. We work closely with the other elements of the U.S. Mission as well as with many Thai organizations to encourage broader understanding of the United States and its relationship with Thailand. Through seminars, exhibits, speakers and other programs, the Media and Cultural Section encourages the sharing of ideas between Thais and Americans on a wide variety of topics.
General information on public diplomacy and public affairs can be found at the homepage of the Department of State's Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs (ECA), Bureau of Public Affairs (PA) and Bureau of International Information Programs (R/IIP).
