Embassy Participates in Coastal Clean Up

On September 19, more than 80 family members and friends of the U.S. Embassy in Bangkok volunteered to participate in this year’s International Coastal Clean Up along the Rayong coastline.  The Embassy team joined more than 1,700 volunteers from U.S. company Dow (Thailand) and a host of other companies located in the Ma Ta Phut industrial park operated by the Industrial Estate Authority of Thailand.  In addition, volunteers included residents of the Rayong community led by the Mayor of Baan Pae Municipality and personnel from the Petroleum Institute of Thailand.  As the volunteers worked under the sweltering sun, they collected a total of 69,485 pieces of debris weighing at over 5.1 MT which included more than 35,000 pieces of plastic and rubber, and over 1,000 pieces each of glass and hazardous materials.

The International Coastal Cleanup is the world's largest volunteer effort to help protect our ocean and waterways.  Thanks to all who joined in this year’s event in Rayong.  Our hats go off to you!
