ASEAN Secretary General Visits ILEA Bangkok
September 22, 2009
On September 22, ASEAN Secretary General Dr. Surin Pitsuwan visited the International Law Enforcement Academy (ILEA) in Bangkok, Thailand. Accompanied by ILEA Director Al Czerski and other special guests, Dr. Surin toured the facility, which was established in 1998 while he served as Thailand’s Foreign Minister.
While at ILEA, Dr. Surin addressed participants of the Personnel and Facility Security Course taught by the U.S. Diplomatic Security Service and the Terrorism Investigation Course conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). "It is with a sense of pride and privilege that I come to visit ILEA today. Having signed the agreement between the Government of the Kingdom of Thailand and the Government of the United States back in 1998 [that brought] ILEA into being. I have learned with pleasure and pride that ILEA has produced close to 10,000 alumni across the region…The people of the region owe all of you a debt of gratitude and they know that their safety and security are in no small part provided by the alumni of ILEA," said Dr. Surin during his remarks.
