Getting to know the USA
On Thursday, September 17, Embassy Officer Lisa Buzenas gave a presentation entitled “Introduction to the USA” to two high schools in Chiang Rai as part of the Embassy Speakers Program. Lisa spoke to more than 200 students and teachers at Mae Lao High School and Panpiset Pittaya High School in Chiang Rai. Lisa began each presentation with a quiz about the U.S.A. that included questions about U.S Presidents, Vice Presidents, and general American history. After that, Lisa discussed options for students wishing to study and/or work in the United States. Students from both schools participated actively in the quiz and enjoyed the presentations, seizing the opportunity to practice their English by posing interesting questions on a range of topics from student visas to scholarships to life at universities in the U.S.
Another special treat on the day was the fun and informative exhibit on the United States that Panpiset Pittaya School Director Mr. Sanong Sucharit, a former participant in the Fulbright Program, created for his students to browse before the formal Embassy Speakers Program presentation.
