Ambassador Hosts Iftar in Celebration of Ramadan
On Thursday, September 3 at 6:29 pm, the sun set and the Imam chanted prayers while members of the Muslim community in Thailand and members of the U.S. Embassy broke the Ramadan fast together by eating dates. Ambassador and Mrs. John hosted the Iftar (break-fast) dinner that included Ambassadors from Muslim countries, Thai Muslim leaders and scholars, Muslim students and other Thai-Muslim friends.
In his opening remarks, Ambassador John spoke of the importance of the holy month of Ramadan and about our friendship with Thais of all faiths. A Ramadan message from President Barack Obama [English | Thai] was played for the audience and books entitled “Being Muslim in America” were given to invitees. After the evening prayers guests enjoyed a halal meal and lively discussions took place at each table as old friendships continued and new friendships formed.
