Ambassador John Helps Thai Students Understand the Impact of U.S. Elections on Thai-U.S. Relations
In response to the intense interest about the U.S. presidential election on the part of Thai youth, U.S. Ambassador Thailand Eric G. John has recently given a series of lectures and seminars at Bangkok-area educational institutions on the impact of U.S. elections on Thai-U.S. relations. During the week of November 17, Ambassador John spoke with secondary students at Satit Patumwan Demonstration School, the Diplomatic Forum of Thammasat University, and with faculty and students of the University of the Thai Chamber of Commerce. The audiences engaged in lively exchanges with the Ambassador about the potential direction of foreign policy under the new Obama administration, as well as the impact of the current economic crisis in the United States on Thailand and the world. Ambassador John told the students and faculty that President-elect Obama's background and speeches suggest he will build on the 175-year history of strong Thai-U.S. cooperation and friendship in the security, economic, and political spheres.
