HRH Princess Sirindhorn Visits Embassy

On Thursday, November 13, the U.S. Embassy had the honor of hosting Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn and a group of military cadets and faculty from the Chulachomklao Royal Military Academy (CRMA) for an enlightening discussion on “Soft Power and U.S. Foreign Policy.” Following opening remarks by Ambassador Eric G. John, the participants in Thailand were joined via Digital Video Conference (DVC) by Mr. Walter Russell Mead from the Council on Foreign Relations and Professor James M. Lindsay from the University of Texas at Austin. Mr. Mead and Professor Lindsay provided their insight on the topic and discussed how the U.S. election would shape foreign policy.

Ambassador John and other Embassy panelists were then joined by Dr. Panitan Wattanayagorn and Dr. Wiwat Mungkandi, both of Chulalongkorn University, and (via DVC) Dr. Wannapa Leerasiri of Chiang Mai University for a second lively question and answer session on U.S. foreign policy. Her Royal Highness, a Professor of American History at the CRMA, was an active participant throughout, lending her astute insight and perspectives to the discussion. At the conclusion of the discussion, Her Royal Highness toured the Embassy's Information Resource Center and was the honored guest of Ambassador and Mrs. John for a luncheon at the Residence.
