The Economic Section is involved in the monitoring of economic, trade and investment trends in Thailand.  The team presents U.S. views on bilateral and multilateral economic issues to the Thai government and the public.  The Economic Section also includes a labor officer that works closely with other sections and agencies of the Embassy to combat trafficking in persons.

The Regional Environmental Office (REO) is within the Economic Section and works on Environment, Science, Technology, and Health issues in the Southeast Asia region.  Please click here to see more on this office.

The United States of America is a member state of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP).   ESCAP was established in 1947 with headquarters in Bangkok, Thailand, and now has a membership of 62 countries.  ESCAP is the regional development arm of the United Nations for the Asia-Pacific region and seeks to address issues that the region faces. 

With guidance from the International Organizations Bureau in the Department of State, the U.S. Embassy in Bangkok represents U.S. interests and positions at ESCAP.  The Counselor for Economic Affairs is designated as the U.S. Permanent Representative to ESCAP.  Please click here for more information.
